What are the advantages of dentures over implants?
Dentures are:
- Comparatively inexpensive
- Can be implemented quickly
- Don't involve any surgery
- Cost more
- Take longer to implement
- Do involve surgery
What are the advantages of dental implants over dentures?
Dental implants are:
- Practically indistinguishable from your natural teeth
- They are anchored firmly in place, so they won't have any negative effect on speech
- They are very strong!
What are the alternatives to dental implants, and when would these be preferable?
One alternative is a dental bridge, which involves placing a dental restoration (pontic) between two crowns anchored onto adjacent natural teeth.
This option is preferable when there is not enough bone to place an implant successfully.
Zygomatic implants and bone grafting also offer viable solutions for individuals with insufficient bone density for traditional dental implants.
For individuals who are not suitable candidates for dental implants, these alternative options provide functional and aesthetic solutions for tooth replacement.
At your free consultation, your dentist can advise on the best treatment for your situation.
Can implant treatment be categorised as prosthodontics?
No it cannot.
Prosthodontics is a dental speciality focusing on dental restorations like crowns and bridges.
While dental implant treatments will use dental restorations or 'prostheses' as part of the procedure, implant dentistry does not come under the banner of prosthodontics.
Can dental implants replace traditional dentures?
Yes they can.
Unlike dentures, which can be uncomfortable and require adhesives for stability, dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone to provide a secure and permanent foundation for artificial teeth.
Dental implants offer a transformative solution for individuals missing one tooth, multiple teeth, or an entire arch of teeth.
Unlike dentures, dental implants provide a permanent and natural-looking replacement.
Dental implants are tailored to each patient's needs, whether a single missing tooth, a few gaps, or a complete set of missing teeth.
