Initial Consultation
Oral surgery covers a wide range of in-depth treatments needed to fix certain issues in the mouth.
This can include decayed tooth extractions, impacted wisdom teeth removal, implants being added to the jawbone and repairs to damaged teeth if there has been an impact to them.
At your initial consultation, the oral surgeon will take an x-ray, discuss your concerns and give you a treatment plan best suited for you.
)
Procedures
Dental surgery refers to any surgical procedure performed in or around the mouth that includes cutting into the mouth or removing tissue from your mouth.
It includes procedures like removing a tooth and gum surgery.
Some Common Dental Oral Surgery Procedures
Wisdom teeth can occasionally grow in awkward parts of the jaw, causing damage to adjacent teeth. Although healthy, these teeth need to be removed as they can cause crowding of the teeth, misalignment, cracks, and infections as gums are shifted around.
An oral surgeon may be required to remove these.
An impacted tooth is a tooth that for some reason has been blocked from breaking through the gum, again an oral surgeon will be required to remove these teeth.

Dental Surgery Recovery
At 3Dental we have recovery rooms after oral surgery has been performed. You can relax in a nice atmosphere whilst you wait for your escort to take you home.
Though aftercare and recovery time can differ depending on the procedure you have had done, you wil usually heal within 7-10 days.
)
Cost of Dental Surgery
Dental treatments vary in price depending on what you have been advised by our dentists.
All our prices can be found on either our price list page and also on your treatment plan given to you by the dentist.
We offer payment plans on treatments over €1,000. In addition, we are a humm partner, which is another avenue for you to pay in monthly instalments.
Payment plans are available for treatments that last over one year.
)
Medical Card Situation
Unfortunately, as we are a private practice, we do not accept medical cards for oral surgery procedures. However, we can refer you to a hospital if you do hold a medical card.
You can avail of your PRSI dental entitlements, and if you qualify you can see one of our hygienists who can give you a scale and polish for 30 minutes for €15 and a free dental exam with one of our dentists.
You can give your PRSI number to our team at reception and they can check if you qualify.
)
Aftercare
After oral surgery the dentist will want to see you back for a review to check healing within 7-10 days.
After you are finished with your treatment we do advise to keep up to your regular dentist appointments and hygiene appointments.
The dentist will recommend a time frame when you should return usually 6 months to do an exam and check all your teeth.
If you have a problem within that time, we encourage you to call us and get seen before the problem becomes something more than what it was.
For more detailed aftercare instructions, check out our Surgery Aftercare Instructions page.
)
Regular Checkups
We recommend you to visit your dentist and hygiene appointments twice a year but again this does depend on you as an individual.
Some patients may need to come more frequently.
