What does an orthodontist do?
An orthodontist is a specialist in dentistry. Orthodontists deal with diagnosis and correction of misplaced teeth and jaw.
They correct bites, occlusions and align teeth using non surgical methods where applicable.
What is the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist?
A dentist and orthodontist are both qualified dentists but an orthodontist is a specialist in the alignment and correction of teeth.
A dentist takes care of your overall oral health care.
A dentist will provide you with a treatment plan if any fillings, cleanings, x-rays or other dental work is needed.
How much are orthodontic treatments in Ireland?
Depending on what type of orthodontics you are aiming for there is a very broad price range.
Our treatments range from €1,540 to €5,720.
View our orthodontic price list page for more information.
3Dental orthodontic prices are extremely competitive in comparison to other orthodontic practices and we have no hidden costs.
Can an orthodontist pull teeth?
No, an orthodontist does not perform extractions.
If extractions are needed, the orthodontist will refer you to a general dentist to have the teeth removed.
Do braces move your teeth everyday?
Yes, you will feel slight movement everyday but it will be very small. Over time you will start to see a significant difference.
The first few days of braces or an appliance can be tender but you will never have extreme pain.
What procedures do orthodontists perform?
An orthodontist aims to straighten teeth and correct misplaced bites. Therefore, they use braces or a removable appliance (Invisalign) to straighten teeth.
If a pre-orthodontic appliance is needed you will be advised of this on the day of the consultation.
What is the fastest way to straighten teeth?
This question is a very common question, but everyone is different.
Braces and Invisalign have an average time frame but depending on the teeth, one option could be shorter than the other.
When you come in for your complimentary consultation, the option of which type of orthodontics can be discussed with you and the length of time for each.
What are the advantages of a specialist dentist and orthodontic team as opposed to a general dentist?
Having a multidisciplinary dental team providing orthodontic dental care can offer several benefits, such as:
- Improved treatment outcomes
- Individualised treatment
- Access to a range of specialists
- Better communication
- And more
What are some of the advantages of an orthodontic consultation?
- Specialist dental record-taking procedures like x-rays and photographs to assess your orthodontic needs
- The opportunity to discuss concerns or questions you have about your teeth with your dentist
- Personalized treatment recommendations from your dentist for correcting orthodontic issues
- Important information about additional orthodontic treatments you may not have been aware of
- Access to previous orthodontic cases to understand the likely results of your treatment
- Meeting your dentist so that you can start building a relationship with them
- Personalized recommendations for maintaining good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment
- Peace of mind knowing that you are making an informed decision about your orthodontic treatment and have a clear plan
How does our pricing compare against the competition?
Choosing a reputable and experienced orthodontic provider who can offer high-quality care and personalised treatment plans is essential.
We offer extremely competitive pricing on orthodontic treatments. We provide free consultations, easy financing, and interest-free payment plans to make treatment even more affordable.
If you're interested in receiving orthodontic treatment, we recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss your options and receive a personalised treatment plan and pricing information.
Can having braces lead to rounded teeth?
Having braces typically does not result in rounded teeth. Orthodontic treatment aims to create straighter teeth that fit together correctly, resulting in a functional, healthy bite.
In some cases, the shape of the teeth may be slightly altered during orthodontic treatment. For example, if a patient has severely crowded teeth, some teeth may need to be reshaped slightly to create enough space for the teeth to move into alignment.
In other cases, we may rotate a tooth slightly to improve its position, which can result in the perception of a different shape.
The benefits of orthodontic treatment far outweigh any minor changes in tooth shape that may occur. Straighter teeth can improve the bite's function, make it easier to maintain good oral hygiene and enhance the smile's overall appearance.
Additionally, properly aligned teeth can reduce the risk of dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, and jaw problems.
What reshaping or shaving of teeth will be needed after I have had braces?
After braces, it may be necessary to reshape the teeth to achieve the desired result.
Typically, we do this to improve the appearance of the teeth or to create a more functional bite.
