Veneers Before and After

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are ideal for enhancing the appearance of your natural teeth by improving their shade, shape, and, in some cases, alignment.

There are two types of veneers available:

Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are popular because they can realistically mimic the look of your natural teeth. The dentist bonds porcelain shells to the front surface of your tooth, which ensures durability.

Composite Veneers: These composite resin veneers are less expensive than traditional porcelain veneers. A highly aesthetic composite resin is applied to your teeth and shaped by hand to achieve the desired result. The treatment can be completed in one visit, giving you an instant transformation.

While porcelain veneers are an excellent long-term solution, composite veneers are non-invasive and more affordable.

Both treatments can last for years with proper care and achieve a dramatic transformation.

Your dentist will discuss the options with you and help you choose the option that is best for your situation and the outcome you want.

At 3Dental, we provide expert consultations to determine the best veneer solution for your needs.

Benefits Of A Veneer Treatment

Versatile Smile Enhancement: Achieve a natural-looking smile with our custom veneers to match it.

Repairs Damage: Dental veneers restore the appearance of teeth and are effective solutions for chips, cracks, and signs of wear.

Investing in cosmetic dentistry will improve your smile and strengthen your teeth.

Improved Aesthetics: Transforms the appearance of teeth by enhancing their shape, size, shade, and in many cases, the appearance of alignment.

Stain Resistance: Veneers are able to resist staining from food, drinks, and smoking, keeping your smile whiter for longer.

Durability: High-quality porcelain veneers can last over a decade, while composite bonding offers a cost-effective option that, with proper maintenance, can last for years.

Quick Results: If you choose composite veneers, we can typically fit them within one visit.

Porcelain veneers may take longer, but you'll still enjoy a complete smile makeover in just a few visits.

Customised Fit: Our veneers are ideal for broken and damaged teeth.

They create a natural aesthetic and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Enhanced Confidence: Everyone wants the perfect smile, but broken teeth, gaps, discolouration and chips can impact your confidence.

Many people find that a cosmetic dentist can transform their smile and boost their self-esteem.

Low Maintenance: Veneers are incredibly easy to maintain.

Regular brushing and flossing, along with routine dental check-ups, should be enough to preserve your smile.

Initial Consultation
Initial Consultation

Initial Consultation

This is a non-invasive visit with your dentist where you can discuss your issues, concerns and treatment options.

The dentist will decide on the best clinical, functional and aesthetic result to suit you. During the initial consultation, we will examine your teeth to make sure that they are suited to dental veneers.

You will receive a treatment plan which outlines the cost of your procedure.

An x-ray and smile design may be sometimes necessary at the consultation stage. A smile design will show you how your new smile is likely to look.

During the consultation process, we often get questions about clip in veneers and whether not we recommend them.

The short answer to this question is no - we do recomment them. However, we've dedicated a whole post to this topic entitled: The Truth About Clip In Veneers.

Procedure

Porcelain veneers are a great way to dramatically and permanently improve the appearance, shape and colour of your teeth.

They are usually used if you are looking to make significant changes to the colour, shape or position of your teeth.

Veneers are made up of a very thin layer of tooth-coloured porcelain bonded over your own natural tooth to improve its aesthetics or to protect its damaged surface.

You’ll normally have to visit us three times:

  1. For your initial consultation and OPG X-ray
  2. For your impression and for the preparation of your teeth which is usually carried out under local anesthetic to make sure it is completely comfortable
  3. Finally, to fit the veneer

The veneer is made in our dental laboratory by a dental technician. The process takes between three and four weeks.

Aftercare
Aftercare
Aftercare

Aftercare

You can significantly prolong the life of your veneer by adopting a good dental hygiene routine, including regular brushing and flossing. You don't need to brush the veneer any differently than your normal teeth.

Remember that dental decay can still occur to the base tooth (under the veneer), so don't be tempted to relax your care regime.

Be particularly alert to the presence of plaque, as this can signal the onset of serious problems for your veneer.

Veneers are made so from a very strong durable material, you can continue to enjoy your favourite food without worry, although you should refrain from biting into anything that is very hard.

We are always on hand for any follow up care as needed. As we are based in Dublin, Limerick and Galway - there is minimal travel time and complexity involved here.

This is in stark contrast to those who go to Turkey to get their veneers done - where aftercare from the same clinic is 1,000's of miles and potentially 1,000's of euros away.

Regular Checkups

Regular Checkups

We recommend you maintain your teeth and veneers by having regular check ups to the dentist and hygienist visits twice a year.

Veneers Vs Crowns

Veneers Vs Crowns

Both veneers and crowns enhance the appearance of your teeth, but each serves a different purpose.

When choosing between them, it's essential to consider the pros and cons.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells that over the surface of your teeth, and preserve most of the natural tooth structure.

They're ideal for correcting major and minor cosmetic issues such as uneven teeth, small gaps, and discolouration.

Pros:

  • Ideal for improving the aesthetics of your teeth.
  • There's the option of using no-prep veneers for minor cosmetic issues.
  • Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant.
  • Custom-made veneers can match your natural teeth.

Cons:

  • Porcelain veneers can be expensive - but 3Dental offers payment plans to make them more affordable.
  • Veneers are best for cosmetic damage but won't be able to replace missing teeth or severe issues.

Dental Crown Treatments

Dental crowns encase the entire tooth, making them beneficial for teeth that are heavily weakened or damaged.

Due to their superior structural support, we may recommend a dental crown if your teeth are severely damaged or have extensive decay.

Pros:

  • Crowns can provide structural support for weakened and damaged teeth.
  • If you have missing teeth or severe damage, crowns can restore dental function.
  • We can match modern crowns to your natural tooth colour.

Cons:

  • Crown treatments are more invasive and require tooth preparation - we often have to make significant alterations to your tooth's structure.
  • Poor oral hygiene can cause decay to the underlying tooth.
  • Crowns can also be expensive due to the preparation work they require.
  • We may need to replace the crown if it becomes damaged or your underlying tooth develops issues.

The choice between the two depends on your teeth' condition and treatment goals.

At 3Dental, our team will assess your dental health and recommend the best option for your smile.

Do You Need Dental Veneers?

Veneers are an excellent option for those looking to improve their smile with a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure.

They're particularly beneficial if you have chipped, slightly misaligned or stained teeth (many people turn to veneers when whitening solutions don't work).

If you have small gaps between your teeth or minor shape irregularities, veneers can provide a quick and effective solution without the need for orthodontic treatment.

They are also great for individuals who want a durable and long-lasting cosmetic enhancement.

However, veneers may not be suitable for everyone.

Those with severe tooth decay, gum disease, or habits like teeth grinding may require alternative treatments before considering veneers.

At 3Dental, our experienced dentists will assess your dental health and help you decide if veneers are the best option to achieve your ideal smile.

We pride ourselves on being able to develop bespoke dental treatments for all clients and do everything possible to transform your oral health.

Commonly Asked Questions

How long do veneers last on your teeth?

Dental veneers can last for 10-15 years with proper maintenance.

How much is a full set of veneers?

Veneers cost approx €550 per tooth.

More information can be found on our pricing page.

Do veneers break easily?

They are made from very strong durable material but do avoid biting into anything hard.

What happens to teeth under veneers?

Ideally your teeth under the veneers will remain as strong as ever, however if you do not follow proper care and maintenance for your veneers you may compromise the structure of your tooth.

For example, if you do not floss you will allow bacteria to build up.

What can you not eat with porcelain veneers?

You should avoid hard food such as toffee and sticky foods, raw fruit and vegetables and tough meat.

Do you offer temporary veneers?

Yes, once your tooth has been prepared for your veneer, we will give you a temporary veneer whilst your veneer is being made in the dental laboratory.

You will be wearing this for 3-4 weeks.

Find out how to care for this temporary veneer in our temporary veneer aftercare instructions page.

Do you offer payment plans for veneers?

Yes we do. 50% is required up front and you can pay the balance monthly.

We require a minimum monthly payment of €150. You can spread the balance out over 12 months.

Find out more information on our payment plans page.

We also offer payment plans via humm. More information can be found on our humm financing page.

Do teeth have to be shaved down for veneers?

Porcelain veneers are irreversible.

They require your natural teeth to be filed down in order to make room in your mouth for the veneer and to create a realistic smile.

Do teeth stay clean under veneers?

While veneers do not decay or stain, the natural teeth underneath can still be affected by plaque and bacteria buildup if not adequately cleaned.

Your dentist may recommend special techniques for cleaning around your veneers, such as using a water flosser or an interdental brush.

It's also important to attend regular dental checkups and cleanings to ensure the health of your natural teeth and the longevity of your veneers.

Can a general dentist put in place dental veneers?

Yes, a general dentist can put in place dental veneers. However, to ensure the best possible outcome, choosing a dentist with the appropriate qualifications and experience in cosmetic dentistry is crucial.

While no formal qualifications are required to place veneers, we recommend that dentists offering this service have completed additional training and education in cosmetic dentistry

Dentists specialising in cosmetic dentistry may also have access to more advanced technology and materials that can help ensure optimal results. For example, they may use digital smile design software to create a 3D model of your smile and show you a preview of what your veneers will look like before placing them.

If you're considering getting veneers, it's vital to do your research. You can ask for before-and-after photos of previous patients to get an idea of their work and read reviews and testimonials from other patients who have undergone the procedure.

How often do you have to get veneers redone?

The lifespan of veneers can vary depending on several factors, including the type of material used, the quality of the placement, and how well they are cared for.

Your dentist can also provide specific recommendations and guidance on caring for your veneers based on your needs and circumstances.

Who shouldn't do my veneers?

Here are some potential problems to consider if you're thinking about getting veneers done abroad or using clip-on veneers:

  1. Lack of regulation: The dental industry in other countries may not be as strictly regulated as in Ireland, which can increase the risk of receiving subpar treatment or complications.
  2. Communication barriers: If you're not fluent, a language barrier may make communicating with the dental team challenging.
  3. Limited follow-up care: If you experience complications after the procedure, returning overseas for follow-up care may be difficult or expensive.
  4. Clip-on veneers: Clip-on veneers are a type of removable veneer that fits over your existing teeth. While cheap, they are not a permanent solution and do not look natural or feel comfortable in your mouth. Additionally, they can cause damage to your natural teeth and gums.

Doing your research and being cautious about where you go for veneers can help ensure a successful and satisfying outcome.

Can I get dental veneers near me?

Yes! We provide veneer treatments in each of our clinics - Dublin (Red Cow), Dublin 2 (Aungier Street), Limerick and Galway.

Book your free consultation today! We look forward to welcoming you in person soon :)

What are the main differences between composite veneers and porcelain veneers?

Both treatments work by covering the tooth's front surface to enhance their appearance; however, they differ in several ways:

Composite veneers are made from a tooth-coloured resin material directly applied and shaped on the teeth by your dentist.

They are less expensive, and your dentist can perform the procedure in a single visit.

We expect your composite veneer treatment to last 5-7 years or more with proper maintenance.

Composite veneers are a very conservative treatment. We generally do not need to prepare the teeth, and you don't need any injections.

Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, are thin ceramic shells, custom-made to fit over the front surface of the teeth.

They are made in our dental laboratory and require multiple visits for preparation and placement.

Porcelain veneers are more durable, with a natural appearance and are very stain resistant. They are highly durable and should last 15-20 years with proper care.

What are the differences between composite, resin and zirconium veneers?

The main differences between composite, resin, zirconium, and porcelain veneers are their material composition, durability, appearance, application method and cost.

Composite veneers are made of a tooth-coloured resin material directly applied and sculpted onto the teeth.

Resin veneers or direct veneers, are similar to composite veneers but are pre-fabricated and bonded to the teeth.

Zirconium veneers are crafted from a strong and translucent material known as zirconia.

They offer exceptional durability, resist staining, and provide a natural-looking appearance.

Zirconium veneers are fabricated in a dental laboratory and bonded to the teeth by a dentist after they prepare the teeth.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain custom-made to fit over the front surface of the teeth.

Porcelain veneers are highly translucent, providing a natural and lifelike appearance.

Do you offer Emax veneers?

We make all our veneers using Emax material!

Emax is renowned for its exceptional durability and high aesthetic qualities.
